Industrial Bearing Maintenance: Extending Service Life in the Field

Rolling bearings rarely wear out — they are killed early. Contamination, wrong lubricant and mounting damage account for the overwhelming majority of premature failures, which means most bearing life is won or lost in the workshop, not the catalog.

Keep it clean from the first minute

A particle the size of a grain of salt, pressed through a loaded contact, starts the spall that ends the bearing. Unwrap bearings at the point of use, never wash away factory preservative with unfiltered solvent, and keep open bearings covered while the machine is apart.

Lubricate by condition, not by calendar alone

Both under- and over-greasing destroy bearings. Establish relubrication intervals from speed, temperature and environment, and when relubricating, pump slowly while the shaft rotates until fresh grease appears at the seal — then stop. Listen and log: a bearing that changes tone is telling you something weeks before it fails.

  • Mount with proper tools — never hammer through the balls
  • Verify shaft and housing tolerances at overhaul
  • Regrease by condition and duty cycle, not habit
  • Record failures with photos — patterns reveal root causes

For MRO and retrofit programs, YZXQ supplies like-for-like replacement bearings across needle, cylindrical, tapered and spherical series — send the bearing code or a photo of the nameplate for identification.
